Exhibition

Remember

by Ebony Bolt

Exhibition Dates: Friday, April 17 - Friday, August 14, 2026

Opening Celebration: Friday, April 17, 2026, 5:30-8pm

Casita Maria presents the solo exhibition Remember by Ebony Bolt, a Bronx-based visionary digital artist and illustrator, on view in the Casita Maria Gallery April 17 - August 14, 2026. The exhibition features Bolt’s prints and patterns inspired by commuting in New York City, escaping in nature and her years of working as a CAD Print Designer in the fashion industry. A free opening celebration will take place on Friday, April 17 from 5:30-8pm in the Casita Maria Gallery at 928 Simpson Street, 6th floor, Bronx, NY 10459. During the event, attendees from across New York City and beyond are welcome to meet the artist, view the work, and enjoy refreshments. Music provided by Bronx DJ collective Uptown Vinyl Supreme.

Inspired by a background in fashion and textiles, Bolt paints and wallpapers the Gallery walls with repeating patterns (stripes, polka dots, argyle, tiger lilies) and images exploring themes of urban life, community, and cultural identity. Hanging on the walls are light boxes echoing the patterns and 12 acrylic self-portraits expressing joy and how to show up with loving kindness regardless of circumstances. The paintings provide a balance to the expressions of the New Yorkers illustrated on the wallpaper, connecting us to our shared humanity and neighbors. Bolt’s artistic process is rooted in her thousands of ink and pencil drawings of commuters around New York which fill her sketchbooks on display.

Remember connects the passing of time and the different mediums in which the artist expresses her artistry, amplifying rhythm, patterns and beats. Ebony Bolt’s exhibition is fearless. She tunes into her memory to let her inner child run free and she invites us all into her playground.

All are welcome and individual visits and guided tours can be scheduled by emailing marketing@casitamaria.org

This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. Additional funding is provided by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.

About the Artist

Ebony Bolt

Artist Statement

My designs celebrate the diverse people of New York City, drawing inspiration from my on-the-go subway sketches. These observations of daily commuters are the core part of my compositions, their interwoven forms mirroring the city's intricate density. Through the digital integration of hand-drawn figures and textile motifs, I create visually rich repeating patterns intended to capture a sense of our shared humanity.

Addendum: Remember is a call of action to realign myself with my purpose and to reinvigorate my essence through my visual storytelling. It's a re-exploring of my genuine interests of illustrating people in a way that feels the most authentic to me. In times where I feel like I have geared off track from who I am at my core and how I express my inner thoughts, I look to previous creations and past images of me in childhood. That was the time where I expressed myself fearlessly without accommodating the viewpoints of what others wanted me to be. This show is giving myself the permission to let my inner child run free.
