Join us for a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month with a one-day concert presented by Casita Maria in collaboration with the Ori-Gen Collective featuring four artists from the Afro Pan Latinx diaspora. The event focuses on the perspective that this group of artists has on their African roots in Latin America.


1-2pm: Melvis Santa (Cuba): Singer, composer, pianist, Afro Cuban dancer, actress, and educator Melvis Santa was born and raised in the heart of an eclectic neighborhood in Havana. Currently based in New York, her project Ashedí is a collaboration that features original compositions and traditional folk Afro Cuban styles, including Rumba.

2:30-3:30pm: Aurelio Martinez (Honduras): Singer-songwriter, guitarist and percussionist, Aurelio Martinez aka AURELIO, is one of Central America’s most gifted performers. Born in Honduras, the artist is known for his powerful and evocative voice. He is a major tradition-bearer of Garifuna culture and music and he is considered nowadays as the Cultural Ambassador of the Garifuna nation.

4-5pm: Grupo Rebolu (Colombia): Rebolu is an Afro-Colombian musical ensemble created from the desire of Ronald Polo, (vocalist/composer/gaitero), Moris Canate, (master folkloric percussionist), and later on Johanna Castaneda (Vocalist/musician) to promote the rich musical traditions of their ancestors; the afro-descendants of Colombia's Caribbean coast.

5:30-6:30pm: Jeickov Vital and Kavita Shah (Venezuela/NYC): Kavita Shah is an award-winning vocalist, composer, researcher, and educator who makes work in deep engagement with the jazz tradition. Jeikov Vital is a musician who has dedicated his artistic life to the Afro-Venezuelan percussion. Through years of research and practice, he has devoted his time to sharing all his acquired knowledge through composition, production, and musical direction.
