CASITA MARIA CELEBRATES ITS 80TH ANNIVERSARY WITH SUMMERFEST AND ALUMNI & COMMUNITY BREAKFAST
Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education, Dancing in the Streets, and the South Bronx Culture Trail present the Casita Maria Alumni & Community Breakfast and Summerfest on Saturday, August 9, 2014. The Casita Maria Alumni & Community Breakfast will be heldfrom 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Casita Maria, located at 928 Simpson Street in the South Bronx. The Casita Maria Summerfest will take place from 12:00 to 7:00 pm on Simpson Street, in front of the Casita Maria building.
The Casita Maria Alumni & Community Breakfast will bring together Casita Maria alumni and members of the South Bronx community to honor the contributions of BENNY BONILLA, renowned percussionist, RICHIE BONILLA, music manager, and AL QUIÑONES, community activist and founder of 52 People for Progress. They will be presented with the Casita Maria Alumni & Community Award.
The Casita Maria Summerfest will present performances by local and international talent, and games in the street outside our building. It features Latino, African and Hip Hop music and dance, focusing on salsa and hip hop, which have roots in the South Bronx. It will be hosted by Bronx based hip hop artist INTIKANA and NENE ALI. Highlights of the day include performances by DIGITAL DIASPORA,world-renown Afro-Latin-Electro music band, traditional African dancers and drummers, DJ GRANDWIZZARD THEODORE, legendary Hip Hop pioneer who invented needle dropping and scratching, MILTERI TUCKER AND BOMBAZO DANCE CO., a Bronx-based Bomba dance company, and much more. The Summerfest will have fun activities for all ages, including games, and face painting booths.
